Since opening an office in China, Ionix have successfully installed HotSense™ on to several refineries and a steel mill in 2022, supporting the growing demand for plant digitalisation through industrial internet of things (IIOT) to increase productivity, improve manufacturing quality and preventative maintenance.
For the latter, non-destructive testing techniques are being implemented, with Electro-magnetic Acoustic Transduction (EMAT) traditionally a popular technology used for ultrasonic testing (UT) measurements. For monitoring damage such as corrosion, erosion and other wall loss mechanisms, as it can provide data through coatings, at higher temperatures and without coupling compared to conventional UT transducers.
Where we have seen success in China with HotSense™ is that it is challenging the conventional. Not only does HotSense™ UT offer operation across the widest operating temperature range, -200 to +550 °C, it has key benefits that are exceeding user expectation of what they can achieve;
- Increased sensitivity and SNR to achieve high accuracy
- High precision to 2.5 µm
- Installed on pipe work down to 2” NPS
- Minimum wall thickness to 2.5 mm, even 1 mm with our dual element range
- Continuous operation up to 550 °C
- Low profile and reduced footprint to fit under insulation and installation on 1” grids
