Ionix delivers a High Temperature Masterclass at the Greater Houston ASNT Spring Educational
In April 2023, The Greater Houston ASNT hosted Ionix to conduct their Spring Educational and present the Ionix Masterclass in High Temperature UT. The one-day course was attended by NDT professionals from seasoned UT level 3’s through to students approaching the end of their training about to take their first steps into the world of NDT. It was great to see such a wide range of experience attending the course
Those that attended the course got the opportunity to build on their existing thickness gauging knowledge by introducing them to important considerations such as the effect of temperature on materials and the subsequent thickness measurements being recorded.
Presently, high temperature UT is not covered by ASNT or PCN and so the course equipped attendees with the required skills and knowledge through in depth theory and question sessions as well as a high temperature practical session. For many, this was either the first time they had made high temperature measurements or the first time they had been given the opportunity to understand the underlying principles. The practicals were delivered using the Ionix HotSense™ UT HS582i dual probes, with some attendees bringing their own.
High temperature UT enables UT testing whilst a hot asset is online, this has many positive benefits not only in reduced downtime but more targeted NDT when outages are planned due to the gathered data collected prior. The technology and ability to do these types of measurements up 550°C (1022°F) safely is now recognised and is a rapidly growing area of NDT.
Don’t be left in the cold!
