It works. It’s proven. The harder question — the one that actually decides your return — is what you do with it.
I want to be honest with you, because I think it serves everyone better than marketing spin. Permanently installed UT monitoring is mature technology. The hardware works. The physics is sound. High-precision sensors already exist off the shelf, operating from cryogenic to above 550°C and in Zone 0 / Class 1 Div 1 environments. What separates the deployments that deliver lasting ROI from the ones that quietly gather dust comes down to three things:

- Probe placement: Deploy probes in a grid arrangement at the right locations, chosen on the basis of damage mechanism, flow modelling, and historical wall-loss data, so that you are monitoring where corrosion and erosion are most likely to occur, not just where it is convenient.
- Data integration: Make the data visible and meaningful to the people who need to act on it by integrating with your existing systems and workflows, rather than creating another data silo.
- Ownership model: Establish clear ownership of the system: who maintains it, who interprets the trends, and who responds when a reading changes. The NDT or Corrosion Monitoring Service Provider already on contract is often the natural fit, because they know your assets and can make the step-change from point measurements to continuous trend reporting.
